The 6000a MKII

I first reviewed the Audiolab 6000a integrated amplifier back in September 2019 and more recently did a big Audiolab integrated amplifier comparison between the 6000a, 7000a and 9000a. The 6000a still offers a great sound for the money that is just easy in every way an integrated can make HiFi easy, except for some it doesn’t.  The Audiolab 7000a added some key and crucial features that many people reply on such as HDMI ARC and for some that would be a deal breaker to buying a 6000a as it does not offer it.

As of April 2025 the 6000a MKII will look to take the original even further and it has the upgrades y’all wanted.

Whats new?

The 6000a MKII gets a new DAC section using the ES9038Q2M DAC chip and new post-DAC active filter.  In addition to this it has an additional digital input incorporating HDMI ARC making it easier to sue the MKII and speakers as a sound for your TV or media.

Inside the amplifiers gets an upgraded toroidal transformer and power supply circuitry and integrated mains filtering for a better sound quality. Audiolab say they have improved the MM phono stage and the bluetooth module.  These are interesting upgrades as they are said to be borrowed from the more expensive 7000a and 9000a and if the MKII can get closer to the sound of the 9000a for about the third the cost that would be something.

What has not changed is the overall form factor the 6000a is still very easy to accommodate and live with, it doesn’t take up much space or draw too much attention to itself.
